DMOZ 2009 Year in Review
Happy New Year!
Now that 2009 is officially in the books, it's time to take a look back at the year that was. We've already heard about our editors' many projects and accomplishments this past year, so I thought we'd take the opportunity to look at some of our directory statistics and some trends we've seen throughout the year.
As we've highlighted in the past, the DMOZ user base is incredibly international. In 2009 we had visitors from over 236 countries and territories around the globe. While five countries (US, UK, Germany, Italy and Canada) still account for the bulk of the visitors, we've also had visitors from emerging markets including India, Russia and China as well as from smaller areas such as Micronesia, Chad, Andorra, Benin, Christmas and Easter Islands – even Vatican City.
According to ComScore, an independent company that measures internet usage, nearly 60% of these visitors were between the ages of 18 and 49; of these, 52% are male and 47% are female. The top two sources of traffic are Google and Wikipedia.
In terms of the directory itself, we added more than 2500 new editors and more than 7000 editors contributed to the project this year. Editors made nearly 2 million editing actions, including more than 700000 URLs added or updated, and created more than 26000 new categories.
Kudos to all who have made 2009 a success! We're looking forward to an excellent 2010.

5. Since I am new I have a few questions thAT WILL HELP ME 2010. I have submitted my company Pro Water Solutions a few weeks ago and I am not showing up on any search in Dmoz. I’m wondering if I did the wrong thing. I also applied as an editor but I have received no e-mails or confirmations of any kind. Do I need to resubmit and If I do submit again do I just do it once or once more each data base. Alta Vista, Bing etc?

7. I agree with some of the comments. We have 2 sites currently listed, but there are a few sites that are not getting approved. The products and services, and content, are all completely different. It would be helpful to understand what the criteria is for DMOZ listings. Here a two that were submitted months ago but have not shown up

16. Great site but it is currently not possible to suggest URLs to 'Home Recording', I have tried to add site several times on different days and at different times. If this site is to live on and be useful it must be possible to make updates - please resolve this issue and say something about it in your FAQ (what does it mean and why are people getting this?). Like many other people have mentioned the following error is displayed:
Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/add.cgi.

17. Approved? DMOZ should be talking about the number of sites that they've lost, even though they're valid and longstanding URLs. As a result of sloppy management by DMOZ, a community site that I manage has disappeared after 10 years in the directory -- meaning that Internet Archive now ignores it.

20. Congrats. I want to know why my blog could not be edited. I changed my domain from blogviet.info to eblogviet.com and resubmitted my info, however, my blog is not removed from the list. Can you tell me why? Thanks very much
