DMOZ Planned System Outage Notification, Round 3
Over the next three days, we will be making additional upgrades to DMOZ. As with the previous planned outage, we will be taking some parts of the directory offline so that we can complete the work. While the directory content will stay on view throughout the process, all directory submissions will be disabled from Monday, August 16 - Wednesday, August 18, 2010. The following functionality will be unavailable throughout this planned outage:
Thank you again for your patience as we work to upgrade the DMOZ directory!

41. I appreciate what DMOZ is doing, and I wish more organizations would follow in DMOZ footsteps. However, DMOZ is also making it difficult for new, legitimate and honest individuals survive on the internet.
I have been running a legitimate online store for the last 4 years and I have to work twice has much (in terms of SEO) then the competition to get traffic because we are not listed on DMOZ. Does DMOZ realize that when you are listed with them, search engine give those sites more importance than others that are not? Even if a site is inactive, (I know - checked other sites often) if it's on DMOZ - those sites get special treatment. In addition, all other directories use DMOZ as their source of information. Where as someone who is working hard, doing a honest job of providing quality content gets the short end of the stick because they can't get accepted into the directory.
That's my two cents, but if someone has something else to share. I am always open to discuss further.
I have been trying to get our site on DMOZ for 4 years.

46. Rather than see a new blog site, I am sure many of your readers / clients / customers would like to see an improvement to the present system, particularly the speed of listing of new applications.
I have been waiting a long time to see my site listed. On the whole its a great site and this is not a criticism.
